BCLA Webinar: Screening for Keratoconus - Review and Updates

The webinar will cover the different tools that are available for keratoconus detection. The talk will also highlight the recent advancements in diagnostic technologies, shedding light on their efficacy in early detection and monitoring of keratoconus. The speaker will also discuss about the Development and effectiveness of a Placido disc attachment which was awarded as the best Poster Award during the BCLA Clinical Conference held in Manchester in June 2023.

  SPEAKER

Fakhruddin Barodawala, FBCLA is an Indian Optometrist who is currently working as a lecturer at SEGi University in Malaysia for over 9 years now. He primarily teaches the subject of contact lenses and is actively involved in research within the area of anterior eye and contact lenses. 
Fakhruddin completed his graduation and post-graduation in Optometry from the Lotus College of Optometry, India and went ahead to pursue his interest in academics and research. Fakhruddin has also been awarded fellowship by the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, India in the subject of Dispensing Optics, the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE), the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) and the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA). 

Fakhruddin has won several awards. He was the first one to be awarded a cash scholarship during his undergraduate optometry graduation and he is also the recipient of the IACLE’s Travel Award for the year 2019. 

His special interests are in contact lenses, dispensing optics, and low vision. He has presented research papers at national and international conferences and has research papers and case reports published in peer-reviewed journals. Fakhruddin is also an elected as a member of the Board of Directors at IACLE. He also works closely with the Digital Learning Committee of the BCLA. 

On the professional front, Fakhruddin is a registered optometrist of the Optometry Council of India (OCI) and a life-time member of the Indian Optometric Association (IOA) in addition to being a member of IACLE and AAO and a Fellow of the BCLA. He has also completed the Optometry Program in Advocacy and Leadership (OPAL) offered by the World Council of Optometry in 2022.
