It’s not difficult to become a skilled contact lens practitioner.
Courses at UK universities and colleges cover contact lens theory, fitting and aftercare. But if you have little practical experience in fitting contact lenses, the best way to build your confidence is to find a post that offers regular contact lens work and, for dispensing opticians, the opportunity for further study.
Once qualified, there are more opportunities to take part in continuing education and training (CET) in contact lenses than any other area of practice, from courses, conferences and evening meetings to journal, web and CD-based learning.
Contact lenses are a rapidly changing area of practice so you’ll need to keep abreast of the latest developments. There are also higher education courses available that will formally recognise your level of expertise.
Also don’t forget the BCLA holds the most comprehensive contact lens educational event of the year, the annual Clinical Conference and Exhibition.

The BCLA is once again at the forefront of innovative contact lens education with a variety of specialist workshops which are a great opportunity for practitioners at all stages of their education to gain practical hands on experience.
