What contact lens qualifications can I take?

The College of Optometrists previously offered a Diploma in Contact Lens Practice (DipCLP), a higher qualification open to members and fellows who had been registered for at least a year. The diploma is to be discontinued in its current format and may be replaced by new qualifications offered in partnership with other organisations.

City University in London already runs a modular MSc course which includes a Contact Lens Practice certificate. DOs must hold an approved contact lens qualification in order to fit contact lenses, currently the ABDO Contact Lens Certificate (FBDO CL) or Diploma in Advanced Contact Lens Practice (FBDO (Hons) CL). These are also open to optometrists and medical practitioners. To find out more about how to become a contact lens practitioner click here.
