Will I need to do CET in contact lenses?

Optometrists currently have no requirement to take part in contact lens CET in order to fit contact lenses although it’s desirable to do so.

Contact lens opticians must gain a minimum of 18 contact lens CET points within a three-year cycle in order to register a contact lens specialty.

Under General Optical Council proposals all practitioners may soon need to demonstrate competencies within their scope of practice and undertake appropriate CET.

Medical practitioners have their own scheme for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
