Delegates attending the first ever BCLA Asia this September will have the chance to become an official BCLA Fellow.

The BCLA Fellowship scheme aims to recognise a member’s esteem in the field of contact lenses and the anterior eye. It allows them to use the affix FBCLA, which shows their commitment to the Association and any significant contribution they may have made to field.
Since the scheme was launched in 2006, a total of 200 professionals from the international contact lens community have become BCLA Fellows.  BCLA chief executive Cheryl Donnelly said: “Becoming a BCLA Fellow is a fantastic way of proving your professional expertise and reputation within the industry. It is a coveted title and only the very best are given the chance to join this sought-after club. “We look forward to receiving applications ahead of BCLA Asia and expanding our number of recognised Fellows across the world.”

The BCLA Academic Committee, chaired by Professor James Wolffsohn, judges each application on an individual basis. Applicants must be current members of the Association, and documentary evidence in support of the application is required.
BCLA members attending the BCLA Asia event on 13 - 14 September in Hong Kong are invited to apply for BCLA Fellowship by Sunday 31 July 2016.  To gain a Fellowship of the BCLA, members must be awarded 50 points by the academic committee and satisfy the committee of their contact lens and / or anterior eye credentials in an oral assessment.
The application fee for Fellowship of the BCLA is currently £100 and covers up to three attempts to gain a Fellowship.

If the application is judged to be insufficient in the number of points necessary to proceed to the viva voce assessment, a report will be returned to the candidate outlining the reasons.
Viva voce assessment will take place during the BCLA Asia event (exact timings to be confirmed).  Please contact [email protected] for more information on how to apply.
‘Early bird’ tickets for BCLA Asia are available to book now, with savings of £100 available up until July 31.
