Fellowship Consultant Applications welcomed

The BCLA Fellowship was launched by the BCLA Council in 2006 to recognise the esteem of their key members in the area of contact lens and anterior eye.

After 10 years of guiding the process with over 200 fellowships awarded at ceremonies in the UK, India and Hong Kong, Professor Wolffsohn is stepping down.

The BCLA therefore seeks a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to uphold and nurture the BCLA Fellowship scheme which involves:
Promoting the fellowship globally to enhance the BCLA’s reputation, increase loyal membership and to further foster the BCLA forum for interchange of knowledge and education
Give individual, timely feedback and support to those who enquire about and/or apply for the Fellowship
Being responsive to the BCLA academic office to enable a smooth running of the application submission, review, vivas and awards
Constituting an examination panel of Fellows to screen the applicants and conduct the vivas
Corresponding with applicants as to the success or additional work needed to reach the viva stage
Overseeing the vivas at the conference and briefing the examiners
Assisting in the hosting of the Fellow’s reception at the conference
Encouraging Fellows to promote the Fellowship to others and to act as mentors to potential fellows
Writing the BCLA annual report Fellowship section and attending the AGM to answer queries on the Fellowship scheme

The candidate should ideally have experience to represent the BCLA’s interdisciplinary membership (as a clinician, working in academia and with industry).
The successful applicant should be free to work with Professor Wolffsohn for the upcoming Fellowship applications at the BCLA Clinical Conference (June 9-11, Liverpool).

This position will be paid an honorarium appropriate to the standing of the position and the work involved.
