BLOG: Ortho-K put in the spotlight at Pioneers & Visionaries

Eye care practitioners attending the BCLA’s Pioneers & Visionaries will hear from world-leading experts on the benefits of using Ortho-K to correct low and moderate levels of myopia.
The life-changing procedure has been considered to be a suitable and appropriate method of treating both forms of the condition ever since the 1960s.
But Ortho-K is slowly becoming more and more popular amid growing pressure on eye specialists around the world to adopt dedicated myopia control programmes.
In a one-hour session, three experts – a former BCLA president, a prominent researcher and contact lens specialist with four decades of experiences – will discuss the benefits of Ortho-K.
Shelly Bansal, Jacinto Santodomingo-Rubido and Nick Howard will also tell delegates about the pros and cons of Myopia Correction against Myopia Control.
A former president of the BCLA, Shelly Bansal has practiced Ortho-k for the majority of his award-winning career. Leading contact lens manufacturers rely on him for his expertise, considered to be second-to-none.
With almost four decades of experience as a Contact Lens Optician, Nick Howard is renowned among the industry for fitting specialty contact lenses and delivering eye-opening lectures at events across the world.
Having presented dozens of scientific papers and authored a similar amount of publications in prestigious industry titles, Menicon’s Jacinto Santodomingo-Rubido is one of the most prominent myopia researchers.
The ‘Is OrthoK for Myopia correction or myopia control? session is just one of several to be delivered over the course of the BCLA’s Pioneers & Visionaries conference.
Registration is now open for the eagerly-anticipated one-day event, which is being held at the Royal Society of Medicine in London on Tuesday, November 26.
The programme has been shaped by BCLA members and also features an exhibition showcasing the very latest technology.
