BLOG: Top award is ‘huge honour’ for BCLA Council member

A senior member of the BCLA Council has been recognised for his pioneering work in contact lenses by landing a coveted award at an event widely recognised as the ‘Oscars of the optical world’.

Indie Grewal was named Contact Lens Practitioner of the Year at the recent Optician Awards,

In choosing the winner of the Contact Lens Practitioner of the Year, the panel of judges were not looking at achievements in research, but at practitioners who, through their work in a local high street practice, are changing the lives of their customers on a daily basis.

They were looking for a practitioner who has not only embraced contact lenses but is a prominent advocate for their use, looking at how contact lens options are discussed with customers and how benefits to each individual can be made clear.

Indie said: “It’s a huge honour to receive the Optician Award. I am passionate about contact lenses and ensuring I am in a position to offer patients the latest in contact lens technology, expertise and service, ensuring they have the very best contact lens wearing experience every day.

“Being part of the BCLA has helped enormously, allowing me to speak regularly to fellow professionals and access the very latest research, developments and technological advances which I can then in turn use to make a difference to the ay-to-day lives of patients.

“The BCLA is at the forefront of all things contact lens related and being on the Council is a real privilege. It’s a rewarding role which provides me with an opportunity to network, develop new skills and to help bring about positive changes to the future of the world of contact lenses and anterior eye.”

The British Contact Lens Association is looking for “committed” and “passionate” members to put themselves forward to represent their peers and shape the future of the organisation by joining the Council, with nominations now open.

BCLA leaders will welcome nominations from optometrists, including those newly qualified, contact lens opticians and ophthalmologists plus all those from technical and commercial areas of the industry.

Only full members of the BCLA based in the UK are eligible to apply and be nominated for election.

The closing date for receipt of completed nominations is midnight on Friday, 4 May and nominations can be made online at www.mi-nomination.com/bcla. If you have any questions or require additional information, please email [email protected].
