Meet a Council Member: Rakesh Kapoor

 

Tell us a bit about yourself? 
A practising clinician with a passion for contact lenses. Partner in 5 Specsavers stores in NW London. I teach contact lens practice to Specsavers trainee intake to prepare them for professional exams. 
Outside of work, I am keen cyclist, skier and foodie!

Why did you join the BCLA? 
Great place to meet old friends and learn about the innovation in contact lenses and anterior eye. Great community and gives you creditability to offer the best service in contact lens practice

What encouraged/inspired you to apply to be on BCLA Council?
I enjoyed being associated with the BCLA and now wanted to influence its direction and impact its values. 

Apart from the membership benefits, what else do you get from being a member of the BCLA?
The BCLA gives me the confidence to be associated with an organisation which will keep be up to date in contact lenses and anterior eye. I have met some great people who are just as passionate.

What is it like being a member of the BCLA council? 
Its formal but fun, it requires constant focus to BCLA business but allows you to be creative, every council member is voiced but have similar goals. I truly recommended it!

What message would you like to give to members / non-members?
Let the BCLA be a part of your professional life!

What do you think will be the biggest change in contact lenses and the anterior eye over the next five years?               
Clinicians will see contact lenses moving from visual correction to therapeutic uses; may it be myopic control, medicine delivery or monitoring.

Biography 

A partner with Specsavers Opticians in 5 stores NW London for over 25 years. A keen interest in contact lenses and running a successful business. Visiting Lecturer at Aston University, a College of Optometrist Assessor and a professional witness for the GOC. 
Outside work, a keen skier and cyclist who enjoys good food!
