Global Ambassador: Pauline Cho

 

Tell us about yourself:
I am a Malaysian of Chinese ethnicity living in Hong Kong and currently, a professor of the School of Optometry of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I have been teaching and researching in the field of contact lenses for many years and loving it still.  Since 2004, I also work with Rotary Club of Kowloon North and organize annual vision screenings in China and Myanmar. 

What encouraged/inspired you to join the BCLA? 
I wanted to broaden my knowledge, network with people in the same field, staying abreast with current research, and staying motivated.

What do you hope to achieve by representing the BCLA as a Global Ambassador? 
To help connect East Asian countries, especially China, with BCLA, to promote and encourage professionalism in Contact Lens Practice. 

Biography: 
I am a Professor of School of Optometry of PolyU (Hong Kong). I obtained her Bachelor of Optometry at the University of New South Wales, Australia, my Master in Professional, Vocational and Higher Education at PolyU, and PhD at the University of Bradford, UK. I have published over 190 papers on tears, contact lenses, and orthokeratology and am a frequent invited speaker at international, regional, and local conferences. I have won several awards from PTeC (PolyU Technology & Consultancy Co., Ltd), including a Research Excellence Grand Award of PolyU’s Distinguish Knowledge Transfer Excellence Awards 2012, for outstanding achievement in clinical research on myopia control and contact lenses. I was also one of the Winners of 2018 GSLS Awards of Excellence (Pioneers in Myopia Control).  
I am currently a Visiting Professor of West China Hospital, Sichuan University, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and British Contact Lens Association, and a founding member of The Hong Kong Academy of Orthokeratology. I am also an Associate Editor of the journal “Contact Lens and Anterior Eye”.
