The Principles of Myopia Management Certificate
“With the growing prevalence of myopia, there is an urgent need for new management approaches. However, with the increasing number of research publications on the topic of myopia management, there is also a clear necessity for practitioners to understand how myopia should be defined and how interventions, validated by well conducted clinical trials, should be appropriately and ethically applied. This certification will give BCLA members a privileged position as to their knowledge and understanding of this developing area of our profession” Professor James Wolffsohn & Dr Nicola Logan
BCLA members will now have the opportunity to work towards a certificate in the exciting and pioneering area of Myopia Management, taught in collaboration with leading international experts. This programme is open to all the global members of the BCLA and reflects its multidisciplinary and international evidence-based expertise.
Myopia and Myopia Management has been a hot topic at most BCLA clinical conferences for the last 10 years. Culminating in an all day Myopia track at the 2019 BCLA conference in Manchester, with presentations from some of the world’s experts in this field.
This new CET accredited programme will create an understanding of myopia and the principles of different management strategies that can reduce the ocular health risks that our young and emerging myopes could experience later on in life. The evidence-basis from cutting edge research is translated into practical guidelines and advice on how to introduce myopia management into your own practice.
This Certificate is aimed at the practitioner who wants confidence in the conversations around Myopia Management with patients and parents and to begin that journey of Myopia Management. Once this expertise is developed and embedded into your clinical practice, you can submit case records to demonstrate this, leading to a Fellowship in Myopia Management.
The BCLA Principles of Myopia Management certificate will be issued on successful completion of the course, one relevant myopia or myopia management workshop or peer review (For the UK, a GOC approved CET, validated with CE number. For overseas members, relevant country accredited course or provide the course details for review) and passing a final Viva Voce style examination.
