Global Ambassador: Joserine Samson

Hello everyone! Marhaba!
I am Dr. Joserine Samson-Brogan, Global Ambassador of BCLA for the Middle East. I am a Clinical Optometrist, an Orthokeratologist and a Specialty Contact Lens Practitioner, whose been practicing my field for 24 years. Half of my lungs breathe eye tests for children, focusing on Myopia Management and Binocular Vision, and half of my lungs care for patients with irregular corneas such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, post grafted corneas, post-surgical ectasias, and for those patients with ocular surface concerns.
I custom design and fit RGP lenses, including orthokeratology lenses, kind of like a tailor making bespoke clothes, but an OD designing bespoke contact lenses for the anterior part of the eyes.
Patients with corneal irregularities and ocular surface issues are prevalent in this region. I help them by custom designing and fitting them with Scleral contact lenses, and other lens modalities suitable for their cases. I am currently based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, practicing in Gulf Eye Center.
What inspired you to join the BCLA?
I have met the best mentors and great friends through BCLA. Their humility and unselfish acts of sharing their support, knowledge and love for craft has made me even more confident in achieving the best possible results for my patients. They have also inspired, and continue to inspire me, in sharing my knowledge to colleagues through lectures and workshops, another slice of my practice pie I have enjoyed doing for more than a decade.
What do you hope to achieve as a BCLA Global Ambassador?
My goal as an Ambassador of BCLA for ME is to encourage practitioners of the same passion and dedication to learn what BCLA is all about and how our organization can support their journey in the field of contact lenses and anterior eye health.
My vision is to create a community of like-minded eye care practitioners who will align with BCLA's purpose of giving the best eyecare service to our patients, keeping in mind the evidence-based practices suitable for each individual condition we encounter in our daily clinical practice.
I understand that this will be a very challenging mission, but with the team of BCLA ambassadors, fellows and members on my side, I see myself as a pebble that is capable of creating huge waves that will deliver the highest possible standard of contact lens and ocular surface health care for our patients, not only in this region, but across the globe.
BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Joserine Samson-Brogan is the First Fellow of British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) in the Middle East and an Associate of International Specialty Contact Lens Society (ISCLS) for United Arab Emirates.
She is both a Registered Nurse and a Doctor of Optometry, practicing her field for 24 years, fitting and designing specialty contact lenses for irregular corneas and ocular surface diseases. She also custom-design and fits Orthokeratology lenses, using it as one of her modalities to manage Myopia in her patients. She is a highly respected speaker, sharing her knowledge in medical conferences to fellow practitioners in Europe, South East Asia and in Middle East.
She is currently practicing her expertise in Gulf Eye Center, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
