BCLA Webinar: BCLA CLEAR™ Presbyopia: Integrating Evidence-Based Insights into Clinical Practice

Presbyopia is a universal, progressive condition that impacts visual performance and quality of life. This webinar will explore the latest evidence-based insights from the BCLA CLEAR Presbyopia report, focusing on evaluation, diagnosis, and emerging management strategies

Accurate assessment of the range of clear focus remains essential in clinical practice to guide presbyopia correction and optimize visual outcomes. The presenters will discuss key clinical considerations for spectacle and contact lens fitting and aftercare of individuals with presbyopia. Current contact lens options, including soft simultaneous, rigid translating, and rigid simultaneous designs, as well as monovision, will be reviewed, with practical recommendations for best practices.
The session will also highlight advances in understanding the biomechanics of the aging eye, including progressive crosslinking and increased rigidity of ocular connective tissues that affect lens and scleral function. These insights open opportunities for novel scleral-based treatments aimed at restoring natural biomechanical movement. Additionally, pharmacological and surgical innovations, such as miotic agents, refractive modifications, and laser ablation of the crystalline lens, will be examined for their potential roles in presbyopia management.

Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of current and emerging therapeutic approaches, the evolving role of the eye care practitioners in presbyopia care, and how to apply evidence-based principles to optimize outcomes for individuals at every stage of life.
